Iowa City West's stifling defense prevented Jefferson from scoring in double figures in any quarter and the No. 1 Trojans routed the J-Hawks, 59-32, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys basketball game at the Jefferson gym.

“That’s the best defense we have seen all year,” said Jefferson Coach Stu Ordman.  “They are so long and athletic; because they are so talented you can’t afford to have any bad possessions and their defense forces bad possessions.”

Jefferson's Jacob Olson had three baskets in the first 10 minutes of the game and then the West High defense shut him down for the rest of the night.  Olson ended the game with six points.

“They wanted me to take outside shots and whenever I went to the basket, I was double teamed,” said Olson.  “They were a big and fast team and it was difficult to find a shot.”

Creighton Robinson hit two free throws in the first half and hit three baskets in the second half to lead the J-Hawks with nine points. Olson and Ky Kramer added six.

“In the first half our goal was to draw their defense out so we could get to the basket,” said Robinson.  “In the second half I was a little more aggressive.”

Iowa City West was led in scoring by Myzeah Batie-Gaddy with 14 points.  Wyatt Lohaus and Jeremy Morgan also were in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
