Cougar girls fall short against Ames

Jordan Holmes scored points but Kennedy came up just short against Ames, 42-39, Saturday in a nonconference girls basketball game at Kennedy.

Stephanie Botkin added 10 points for Kennedy (8-6).

Kennedy trailed 12-6 after the first quarter and 21-18 at halftime. The Cougars held a 30-29 lead after three quarters.

Molly Sanders scored 19 points and Shay Kellogg 14 for Ames.

The Cougars hurt their cause by making only 1 of 6 free throws.

Injured Kennedy center Morgan Martin said after the game that she underwent arthroscopic surgery on her wounded knee this past week and is hopeful of playing again this season.

AMES (42): Emily Frisk 0 0-0 0, Molly Sanders 6 3-4 19, Ashley Ray 0 0-0 0, Deja McAtee 1 0-0 2, Kiana Peterson 1 1-2 3, Bailee Jackson 2 0-1 4, Shay Kellogg 5 2-2 14, Jamie Steyer 0 0-0 0. Totals 15 6-9 42.

KENNEDY (39): Madison Meier 2 0-0 5, Madison DeLong 0 0-0 0, Jordan Holmes 6 0-2 13, Brianna Vis 1 1-1 3, Paige Hendrickson 4 0-2 8, Stephanie Botkin 5 0-1 10. Totals 18 1-6 39.
