Evans breaks 3200 mark at Wilkinson

Linn-Mar junior Josh Evans set a meet record in the 3200 meter run Friday at the 27th Annual Wilkinson Relays at Kingston Stadium.

Evans made eight trips around the track in 9:21.01, snapping the old mark of 9:24.87 that had stood since 1993.

Linn-Mar won seven events and captured the team championship with 123 points. The Marion Indians claimed second place with 84 points, nipping Prairie and Kennedy by a single point for runnerup honors in the seven-team Metro field.

Chase Grabau captured the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run for Linn-Mar. Perrion Scott claimed the 200 for the Lions. Linn-Mar also won the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

Willie Rhoads soared 6 feet, 7 inches to win the high jump for Kennedy. Derek Jacobos claimed the long jump for the Cougars. Kennedy also won the 4x200 and shuttle hurdle relays.

Timauntay Jones captured the 1600 meter run for Jefferson. Lucas Vanous won the 400 low hurdles for the J-Hawks.

Nick Steingreaber won the 100 meter dash for Xavier. Craig Murtha took the discus title for the Saints.

Haakon Wilz won the 110 high hurdles for Prairie. The Hawks also won the sprint medley.

Zach Borens won the shot put for Marion.
