Washington junior Morgan Barnes has been named the 2011 Metro Athlete of the Year in boys swimming, according to the Metro swim coaches.

Barnes placed second in the 200 freestyle and third at the 500 freestyle at the state tournament in Marshalltown last Saturday, helping the Warriors finish fourth in the team standings.

Eighteen swimmers from Washington were named to the All-Metro team, based on their best times this season. The Warriors placed 11 swimmers on the first team, three swimmers on the second team and four swimmers received honorable mention.

Linn-Mar Coach Ralph Cortez and his assistants were named the Metro Coach of the Year.
