DUBUQUE - Xavier was upended by Dubuque Wahlert, 5-4, in the Class 1A boys substate team tennis tournament Saturday at Wahlert.

The Saints ended their season one match short of the state tournament.

Mitch Steffensmeier, Grant Hunt and Ben Curley won singles matches. The score was tied, 3-3, after singles.

Curley teamed with Zach Schowalter to win in doubles, but the Saints dropped the other two doubles matches.

Xavier reached the substate final by beating Waterloo Columbus, 5-2, earlier Saturday.

Kyle D'Mello, Steffensmeier, Hunt and Curley won singles matches. Curley and Schowalter cinched the win in doubles.
