PLEASANT HILL - Cedar Rapids Prairie exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday and defeated Western Dubuque, 9-4, in the opening round of the Southeast Polk tournament.

Southeast Polk beat the Hawks, 6-1, in the finals.

Prairie trailed 4-2 entering the sixth inning against Western Dubuque. The Hawks pulled within 4-3 to get the frame started, then Caleb Davison delivered a two-run single for a 5-4 lead. Tyler Butz followed with a grand slam to give Prairie breathing room.

Brennan Hammer went 3-for-3 with two RBIs against Western Dubuque. Davison was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Butz was 2-for-4 with his four RBIs on the grand slam.

The Hawks outhit Southeast Polk, 8-4, in the championship game, but they left 13 runners on base. In addition, Prairie walked 10 batters in the contest.

Ty Mougin, Hammer and Tyler Votroubek had two hits against Southeast Polk.
