WEST DES MOINES - Kennedy played error-free baseball for six innings to back the two-hit pitching of freshman Jackson Behn in building a 2-0 lead against No.3 West Des Moines Valley.
Then came the seventh inning.
Back-to-back Kennedy errors to start the inning sparked a three-run seventh that allowed Valley to escape the Cougars, 3-2, Thursday night in a non-conference baseball game.
Kennedy pitcher David King, who relieved Behn to start the seventh and took the loss, also had an errant pickoff throw in the inning that produced a run. The Tigers (9-2) won the game on Connor Sorge's two-out RBI double.
Kennedy (5-8) scratched across two runs in the third inning. Jared Staton's sacrifice fly plated the first run and the second scored on Tony Maiers' RBI single.
The Cougars finished with three hits. Valley had four safeties.
