Oliva featured at Twins Breakfast July 27

Former Minnesota Twins star Tony Oliva will be the featured guest at the first Twins Breakfast on Saturday, July 27 at the Clarion Hotel & Convention Center in southwest Cedar Rapids.

The event is being hosted by the Cedar Rapids Kernels, who are the Class A affiliate of the Twins in the Midwest League.

Oliva was a two-time American League MVP and an eight-time All-Star for Minnesota during his career from 1962 through 1976. He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1964 and finished his career as a .304 hitter with 220 home runs and 947 RBIs.

The Twins have retired Oliva's No.6 jersey and there's a statue of Oliva at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Tickets to the breakfast cost $20 for adults and $15 for children 12-and-under if purchased in advance. Tickets will cost $25 for adults and $20 for children 12-and-under if purchased at the door on July 27.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels coaching staff and players will attend the breakfast. Target Field organist Sue Nelson and Twins mascot TC Bear also will attend.

There will be a silent auction for the following items:

  • Four tickets to a Twins game at Target Field
  • Joe Mauer autographed memorabilia
  • A night in a Kernels diamond suite
  • Twins autographed memorabilia
  • Tony Oliva autographed memorabilia
  • Entertainment packages

There will be a casual meet-and-greet session with Oliva during the breakfast. The first 50 kids will receive a free Twins youth jersey.
