EASTLAKE, Ohio – Jorge Polanco delivered an RBI singe in the top of the 12th inning that scored Jeremias Pineda and gave the Cedar Rapids Kernels a 7-6 win over the Lake County Captains on Wednesday night in Midwest League baseball.

The Kernels took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Michael Quesada and three-run homer by Pineda. They extended the lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning, but Lake County scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 5-5.

Niko Goodrum gave the Kernels a 6-5 lead with an RBI single in the sixth.

Lake County tied the game when Richard Stock struck out, but reached third on a throwing error by Quesada and scored on a double by Yhoxian Medina.

The game remained tied until Polanco’s single in the 12th.

Alex Muren (5-1) worked two innings of relief for the win and Tim Shibuya recorded his first save as a Kernel. Kernels starter Christian Powell allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out five over 5 IP. Kernels pitchers combined to set a season team-high with 19 strikeouts.

Goodrum went 4-for-5 with two walks and three stolen bases. Pineda was 3-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBIs.

The teams meet again on Thursday at 6 p.m. (Iowa time) at Classic Park. Left-hander Josue Montanez (3-2, 5.35) will start for the Kernels against Luis Dejesus (3-9, 6.18) for Lake County.
