Zach Johnson 8th at PGA Championship

Zach Johnson notched his fourth straight Top 10 finish on the PGA Tour Sunday with a bogey-free, 2-under-par 68 in the final round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.

Johnson, who played high school golf at Cedar Rapids Regis, never threatened the leaders but made a strong showing with 16 pars and two birdies in the final round. He finished at 3-under-par with rounds of 69-70-70-68 and tied for 8th place.

Johnson, a 9-time winner on the PGA Tour, registered his third Top 10 finish in the last five PGA Championships. It also was his second Top 10 finish in a major championship in 2013, following his sixth-place showing at the British Open at Muirfield, Scotland.

He started his Top 10 streak this year with a second-place tie at the John Deere Classic, losing in a three-way playoff. He then finished sixth at the Open and tied for 4th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Johnson is scheduled to play this week at the Wyndham Championship at Greensboro, N.C.

Caine Fitzgerald, another Cedar Rapids product, failed to make the cut at the PGA but had a memorable stay nonetheless.

Fitzgerald, a Cedar Rapids Kennedy graduate, qualified by finishing in the top 20 at the PGA Club Professionals Championship in July. With rounds of 75 and 76, he tied for 6th among the club pros, none of whom made the cut.

Fitzgerald played practice rounds with Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Keegan Bradley and Davis Love III. He made two birdies in the tournament, 23 pars, 9 bogeys and 2 double-bogeys. Fitzgerald now resides and works in Aurora, Colo.
