Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Tristan Beyer has been named this week's winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school boys, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Beyer is an outstanding track athlete and football player at Prairie.

He made 16 tackles at outside linebacker Thursday when the Hawks opened the season with a 24-7 victory over Jefferson. He had nine solo tackles and seven assists, along with an interception, sack and quarterback hurry.

Beyer helped Prairie win the 4x400 relay at the Drake Relays last spring as the leadoff runner. He placed second in the 400-meter dash at the Class 4A state track meet in 48.85 seconds and helped the Hawks finish third in the 4x400 relay at state.

MSR: What has been your favorite individual highlight in sports?

TRISTAN: My favorite highlight in sports has been being an all-conference linebacker along with a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash at state with Elite All-State honors.

MSR: What has been your favorite team highlight in sports?

TRISTAN: My favorite team highlight has been our quarterfinals appearance last year in the state football playoffs, along with our 4x400 Drake Relays championship.

MSR: Who has had the biggest influence on your sports career?

TRISTAN: My biggest influence on my sports career has been my father Bob, along with my grandfather Lewis.

MSR: What are your favorite subjects in school?

TRISTAN: My favorite subjects in school are science and math.

MSR: What are your future goals in sports?

TRISTAN: My future goal in sports is to excel at any level of sports I may play.

MSR: What has been your favorite community service project?

TRISTAN: My favorite community service project is being an assistant coach for my brother's second grade YMCA basketball team, along with being a member of National Honor Society at Prairie.
