Linn-Mar senior Josh Evans has jumped to the top of the Class 4A cross country rankings after winning a major race in Illinois this past Saturday.

Evans did not race during the first month of the season due to a nagging injury and had fallen out of the rankings, but his impressive showing at the Charger Classic Invitational in Aurora, Ill., convinced the Iowa Track Coaches Association to rank him No.1 this week.

Evans covered the three-mile course in 14 minutes, 40 seconds and posted a 10-second victory in a field of 138 runners from 18 schools.

Cedar Rapids Prairie is ranked No.2 in the Class 4A team standings with four runners in the Top 30. Mitch Pritts is ranked sixth, Isaiah Vlasek 11th, Tysen Van Draska 19th and Jake Moore 28th.

Linn-Mar is ranked No.6 with Evans No.1, Tanner Rathje No. 7, Daniel Murphy No.15 and Michael Mather No.29.

The Kennedy girls are ranked No.4 in Class 4A with Alyssa Averhoff ranked No.8 and Allison Culver ranked No.26. The Linn-Mar girls are ranked No.8 with Amber Decker 13th and Maddie Saville 14th.

Shannon Gorman of Washington is ranked No.10 in Class 4A.

The Xavier boys are ranked No.5 in Class 3A with Jacob Schmitt No.23. The Xavier girls are ranked No.8 with Jenny Dickes No.20.

Colton Forster of Marion High School is ranked No.25 in Class 3A and Madison Bach of Marion is ranked 28th among the girls in Class 3A.
