Warriors inducting 8 into Hall of Fame

Cedar Rapids Washington will induct eight new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 14 between games of a varsity basketball doubleheader against Jefferson.

Kirk Abernathy, Steve Puk, Maurice Blue, Peter Nau, Mack Jilek, Dusty Wadlington, Ashley Ernst and Dr. Scott Nau will be honored that night.

Abernathy (Class of 1981) participated in track, football and basketball. He was a state champion in the medley relay and 4x100 relay and a track All-American. He played football at Drake and twice made all-conference in college.

Puk ('81) participated in football, track and basketball at Washington. He was named first team all-state in football in 1980 and finished third in the shot put at the 1981 state track meet. He played football at the University of Minnesota.

Blue ('94) played football and was a member of the track program. He was a first team all-state football player in 1993, played in the 1994 Shrine Bowl and was a two-year starter at Coe.

Peter Nau ('97) was an outstanding tennis player at Washington. He won the state doubles title in 1996 with Kyle Slaughter and was the state coed runnerup in 1997 with Lisa Justice. Nau helped Washington win state team titles in 1994 and 1996 and finish second in 1995 and 1997.

Jilek ('98) was a four-time state champion in swimming for Washington in the 200 medley relay (three times) and the 200 freestyle relay. He finished in the top-6 at the state meet 11 times.

Wadlington ('98) played basketball and football for the Warriors. He was named second team all-state in basketball in 1998 and was named first team all-conference at Morningside College, where he set three school records.

Ernst (2002) played golf and basketball. She was named first team all-state in golf in 2002 and was the state coed golf champion in 2000 with Joe Hoyt. Ernst helped Washington win state golf titles in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Dr. Nau will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a contributor. He has served as Washington's team doctor for more than 25 years. He was a first team all-conference and all-Metro football player.
