Indians ousted by DeWitt Central, 48-43

DE WITT - DeWitt Central outscored Marion 7-3 in the final minute and pulled away for a 48-43 victory Wednesday night in a Class 4A girls basketball regional quarterfinal game.

DeWitt Central advances to play at Xavier on Saturday night.

Michalyn Mohr scored 17 points and Amanda Sahm added 14 for Marion (6-16).

 

Sahm and Mohr combined for all 21 of Marion's points in the first half, which ended with the indians holding a 21-20 lead.

Central led 35-29 after three quarters, but the Indians sliced the margin to 41-40 before fading in the final minute.

Amanda Brainerd led Central with 20 points.

MARION (43): Peyton 1 0-0 3, Sahm 5 3-4 14, Dunne 0 0-0 0, Fuller 0 0-0 0, Jones 1 0-0 3, Whiting 1 0-0 3, Jordan 1 0-0 3, Mohr 7 1-1 17. Totals 16 4-5 43.

DEWITT CENTRAL (48): Rolling 1 1-3 4, Henningsen 0 0-0 0, Saunders 1 4-6 7, McNamara 1 0-0 2, Brainerd 7 6-9 20, Cornelius 1 0-0 2, Meland 5 0-0 12, Willis 0 1-2 1. Totals 16 12-20 48.
