Outfielder J.D. Williams has joined the Cedar Rapids Kernels from extended spring training and will lead off and play left field for the Kernels Saturday night.
Williams, who played much of the 2013 season with the Kernels before being promoted to Fort Myers, is replacing second baseman Tanner Vavra on the Kernels’ roster. Vavra has been placed on the 7-day Disabled List with an injured ankle.
Williams hit .281, had an on-base percentage of .391 and hit eight home runs in 80 games with the Kernels a year ago.
