Coe's Sprinkel falls at NCAA tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Coe junior Noah Sprinkel lost in the first round of the NCAA Division III national tennis tournament Thursday to Avery Shober of Sewanee, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Shober jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third set, but Sprinkel fought back to tie at 3-3. Shober won the next two games, taking a 5-3 lead. Sprinkel pulled within 5-4, but Shober won the final game for the 6-4 victory.

This was the 12th time a Kohawk has been invited to the NCAA national tournament and the second straight year for Sprinkel. He joins Jon Turbett, Johnny Watson and Nick Barnes as the only Kohawks to earn multiple invitations.

Sprinkel finished the year with a 22-6 record.
