Williams goes on DL; Murphy joins Kernels

The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announced Sunday that outfielder John Murphy has joined the Kernels from Fort Myers in the Florida State League and that J.D. Williams has been placed on the 7-day disabled list.

Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the moves.

The Twins selected Murphy in the 19th round of the 2012 draft from Jacksonville University. He split time last season between Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers, batting .272 in 56 games for the Kernels with two homers, 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

He began this season at Fort Myers and in 21 games was batting .197 with three doubles and eight RBIs.

Williams goes on the DL with right patellar tendinitis. In 24 games for the Kernels this season, he was batting .233 with six doubles and 10 RBIs.
