Jenks, Evans star at NYC 'Dream Mile'

NEW YORK CITY - Linn-Mar state champions Stephanie Jenks and Josh Evans took their act to the Big Apple Saturday and did very well on the big
stage.

Jenks finished second in the adidas High School Girls Dream Mile in 4 minutes, 42.68 seconds at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York City. Sarah Feeny of Ogden, Utah won the race in 4:39.23, beating Jenks to the wire by slightly more than three seconds.

Feeny has graduated from high school in Utah. Jenks is two years younger than Feeny, having just finished her sophomore year at Linn-Mar.

Evans placed fourth in the Boys Dream Mile in 4:04.38 in a highly competitive race. Grant Fisher of Grand Blanc, Mich., won the event in 4:02.02.

Eleven runners were clocked in 4:08 or better and the top seven runners all clocked 4:05 or better in the premier race.

Evans unofficially broke the Iowa state record in the mile, contingent upon the IHSAA recognizing Saturday's results. Ed DeLashmutt of Fort Madison has held the state record in the mile since 1976 with a 4:05.6.
