Kernels fall 10 games under .500

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars scored two runs in the eighth inning Friday night to snap a 4-4 tie and defeat the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 6-4, before 8,683 fans in a Midwest League game at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

The loss dropped the Kernels 10 games under .500 at 31-41, their low-water mark for the season.

Mitch Garver belted a two-run homer for Cedar Rapids in the first inning for a quick 2-0 lead, but it did not hold up. It was Garver's eighth home run of the season.

Engelb Vielma and Bryan Haar had two hits for the Kernels.

Jacob Hannemann and Kyle Schwarber hit home runs for Kane County (47-25).

The same teams meet Saturday night at 6:30.
