Kernels activate Williams, release Licon

The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday that outfielder J.D. Williams has been activated from the 7-day disabled list and infielder Joel Licon has been given his unconditional release.

Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the moves.

Williams went on the DL June 1 with right patellar tendinitis. In 24 games this season, he is batting .233 with six doubles and 10 RBIs.

Licon played 43 games for the Kernels, batting .201 (27-for-134) with four doubles and eight RBIs. He appeared in 53 games for the Kernels in 2013, batting .241 with two homers and 29 RBIs.
