4 Metro football games on tap

High school football fans will have four games to choose from tonight in the Metro area in Week 2 of the regular season.

Jefferson hosts Prairie at Kingston Stadium, Linn-Mar hosts Pleasant Valley, Marion entertains Washington (Iowa) at Thomas Park Field and Cedar Valley Christian hosts Clarksville at the LaSalle Middle School field.

PRAIRIE (0-1) at JEFFERSON (0-1)

Kingston Stadium, 7:15 p.m. 
KGYM 1600 AM/107.5 FM

Jesse Furrow passed for 187 yards and ran for 51 yards in his debut as the new Jefferson quarterback last week in a 43-26 loss to No.3 Washington.

Furrow, a transfer from Indiana, hit 9 of 23 passes with one interception. Manny Olutunde scored on a 98-yard kickoff return for Jefferson and caught a 50-yard pass. Tavian Rashed ran for two TDs for the J-Hawks.

Mason Furnish caught three passes for 75 yards for Jefferson. Mason Short had one grab for 62 yards.

Trey Beckman completed 17 of 30 passes for 186 yards and two interceptions for Prairie last week in a 35-9 loss to Linn-Mar.

Keagan Pinter rushed 13 times for 96 yards and scored on a 51-yard gallop for the Hawks. JoJo Simpson caught five passes for 47 yards.

 

Pinter caught four passes for Prairie. Connor Grade and Jalen Rima had three receptions.

PLEASANT VALLEY (0-1) at LINN-MAR (1-0)

Linn-Mar Stadium, 7:15 p.m.

Ryan Schmidt accounted for four touchdowns for Linn-Mar in a 35-9 thrashing of Prairie last week. Schmidt hit 7 of 14 passes for 131 yards and one TD. He also carried the ball 23 times for 54 yards and three TDs.

Perrion Scott ran seven times for 59 yards and one touchdown for the Lions. Logan Benter carried the ball 10 times for 55 yards and caught a TD pass from Schmidt. Trevor Noble and Garett Evans had two catches.

Pleasant Valley lost to North Scott, 7-3, in its season opener. Chase Kipper passed for 107 yards and ran for 83 yards for Pleasant Valley. Brendon Bormann carried the ball 12 times for 63 yards. Kevin Stewart had five catches.

WASHINGTON DEMONS (0-1) at MARION (1-0)

Thomas Park Field, 7:15 p.m.

The Marion Indians began the season with a 28-6 victory at Mount Vernon last week. New quarterback Hayden Meister hit 3 of 7 passes for 65 yards and one touchdown. He also ran the ball nine times for 54 yards.

Kory Walsh rushed 19 times for 61 yards and two TDs for Marion. Gage Kray had a 28-yard touchdown scamper. Derek Smith caught a 38-yard TD pass.

Washington quarterback Daryn Sebelius passed for 196 yards and ran for 149 yards last week against Pella, but he could not produce any touchdowns in a 35-0 setback.

CLARKSVILLE (1-0) at CEDAR VALLEY CHRISTIAN (1-0)

LaSalle Middle School, 7 p.m.

Cedar Valley Christian won the first game in school history last Friday with a 30-20 victory at Harmony of Farmington. The Huskies had lost 22 straight games before denting the win column in their fourth year of 8-Player football.

Keenan Ulmer completed 7 of 17 passes for 101 yards, hitting seven different receivers in the ballgame. He also carried the ball 21 times for 76 yards and three TDs.

Apollo Betsworth ran the ball 12 times for 39 yards for Cedar Valley. Tom Scroggs returned a kickoff 68 yards for the go-ahead touchdown to start the second half.

Clarksville rolled by West Central, 58-30, last week with a punishing ground attack. Zach Sommerfelt carried the ball 25 times for 192 yards and four touchdowns. Trevor Fenneman ran 13 times for 147 yards and three TDs.

Clarksville completed only four passes in the game.
