Harbaugh, Schaefer named All-Americans

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The AVCA announced its NCAA Division III All-American teams this week with Coe junior Mackenzie Harbaugh and senior Rachel Schaefer honored as the first all-Americans in school history.

Harbaugh was named to the third team and Schaefer was an honorable mention selection. Harbaugh was also the only Iowa Conference player named to the first, second or third teams.

Harbaugh finished the season with 81 service aces, the most by any Kohawk in a single season. She finished fourth in single-season attack percentage at .351, fourth in assists with 1,339, fifth in assists per set with 10.22, fifth in service aces per set with .62, tied for ninth in sets played with 131 and tied for third in matches played with 38.

Harbaugh is the career leader in attack percentage at .306 and is ranked fourth in assists with 2,588, fifth in assists per set with 7.01, sixth in service aces with 143 and fourth in service aces per set with .39.

Harbaugh's 81 service aces were good for eighth best in the country. She also came in at 11th in total assists, 20th in hitting percentage, 25th in assists per set and 47th in aces per set.

Schaefer became Coe's career leader in kills, attack attempts and points. She finished her career with 1,615 kills on 3,983 attempts and 1,892 points. Additionally, Schaefer ranks in the top 10 in multiple categories.

She finished her time in a Kohawk jersey fourth in career kills per set with 3.32, fourth in attack percentage at .265, fourth in service aces with 155, eighth in block assists with 154, eighth in total blocks with 199, sixth in points per set with 3.89, seventh in sets played with 487 and third in matches played with 141.

During her final campaign, Schaefer ranked second in kills in a single-season with 468, third in kills per set with 3.60, third in attack attempts with 1,140, 10th in attack percentage at .285, third in points with 522, sixth in points per set with 4.02, 10th in sets played with 130 and tied for third in matches played at 38.

She also ranked 10th for kills in a single match, with 17 in both the Olivet and Wisconsin-Stout matches and fifth in attack percentage at .600 in the Elmhurst match. Nationally, Schaefer ranked 25th in total kills, 58th in kills per set, 65th in total attacks and 79th in points per set.

The Kohawks finished the season with a 29-9 overall record and a 7-0 record in the Iowa Conference. The 29 wins are the fourth most in school history.

Coe won the Iowa Conference regular season title for the second time in school history, while also earning the first Iowa Conference Tournament title in school history. The Kohawks earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they knocked off eighth-ranked St. Thomas for the first NCAA Tournament win in school history.
