Shelby Hembera sits as Huskies fall

SPRINGVILLE - The Cedar Valley Christian girls basketball team played without all-state forward Shelby Hembera Tuesday night and lost a Tri-Rivers Conference game to Bellevue Marquette, 64-40.

Hembera, who leads the state in scoring, suffered a sprained ankle Friday night and is using crutches to get around. Coach Craig Foote said she is doubtful for CVC's games this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Molly Hembera, Shelby's younger sister, led Cedar Valley (7-5, 3-4) with 18 points. She hit all seven of her shots from the field and was 3-for-4 at the foul line. Maggie Cach supplied 15 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies.

Nicole Blum scored 19 points for Bellevue Marquette (9-4, 6-1).
