Fighting Saints stop RoughRiders, 2-1

Seamus Malone scored two goals, including the game-winner at the 11:12 mark of the third period, to give Dubuque a 2-1 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in front of 3,564 fans Friday at the Ice Arena.

Malone gave the Fighting Saints a 1-0 lead in the second period with a goal off an assist by Nate Sucese at the 10:55 mark.

Dylan McLaughlin tied the score at 9:09 of the third period with assists from Aaron Thow and Andrew Gaus, but Malone scored the game-winner two minutes later.

The RoughRiders out-shot the Fighting Saints, 42-24.

Cedar Rapids (28-11-0) remained atop the Eastern Conference standings with 56 points. Dubuque is third with 50 points.

 

The teams play again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Dubuque.
