PDF

WAVERLY - Coe freshman Chris Hawkins broke the school record in the long jump Friday when he flew 23 feet, 6 3/4 inches at the Iowa Conference indoor track meet in Waverly.

Hawkins snapped the school mark that had stood since 1977. He finished second in the long jump Friday behind Eric Larson of Central, who went 23-7 1/2.

Erik Franklin of Coe placed third in the long jump at 22-6 1/4. Laura Bybee placed third in the pole vault at 10 feet, 2 1/2 inch.

The Coe men are in fourth place in the eight-team standings with 31 points heading into Day 2 of the conference meet on Saturday. The Coe women are in sixth place with 13 points. Wartburg has the lead in both meets.
