Meyer sparkles for No. 2 J-Hawks

Sam Meyer tossed a three-hitter Wednesday night as Jefferson clipped Davenport North, 4-1, in a non-conference baseball game at the Jefferson field.

Meyer pitched all seven innings for the second-ranked J-Hawks, with five strikeouts, one walk and one unearned run.

Jefferson scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Caleb Stekl and Cam Frazier had two RBIs in the uprising as the J-Hawks erased a 1-0 deficit. Frazier went 2-for-3.

The victory lifted Jefferson to 27-6 overall.

Iowa City West swept its doubleheader from Waterloo West on Wednesday and pulled closer to Jefferson in the Valley Division standings in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Jefferson leads the division with an 18-4 record, with Iowa City West sitting at 18-6 in the 26-game campaign.
