Perkins will coach Marion this week

Tony Perkins has been reinstated as the Marion High School football coach this week, The Gazette reported on its website Wednesday morning.

Marion athletic director Corby Laube told The Gazette, "Yes, he was back at practice Tuesday, and he will be coaching the team on Friday."

Laube did not respond to an e-mail or a voice message from the Metro Sports Report on Tuesday seeking comment about Perkins. Laube returned a phone call to the Metro Sports Report Wednesday morning and confirmed Perkins will coach the Indians in a home game against Cascade this Friday night.

The Metro Sports Report broke the story last Wednesday night that Perkins had been suspended and that Marion assistant coach Nick Perkins, his brother, had been fired due to an allegation of verbal abuse in the football program, based on two sources.

Marion officials have declined comment on why Tony Perkins was suspended and why Nick Perkins was fired. Neither Perkins brother coached the Indians this past Friday night in a loss at Washington.

Marion has an 0-2 record this season and has lost 10 straight games, including the final eight of the 2014 season.
