RoughRiders climb to top of USHL

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders skated past Waterloo, 5-1, Saturday night before 2,451 fans at the Ice Arena to move into a first-place tie in the Eastern Conference of the USHL standings.

The RoughRiders and Green Bay are deadlocked at the top of the division with 25 points.

Cedar Rapids won its third game in three days, including a pair of victories over Waterloo.

Matt Filipe scored two goals for the RoughRiders, giving him nine goals for the season. Ross Colton notched his 10th goal and Hugh McGing collected his eighth goal for the winners. Sam Sternschein also tallied for Cedar Rapids.

Cal Burke and Matt Gosiewski had two assists for the RoughRiders.

Ben Blacker turned aside 39 shots for the save as the RoughRiders raised their record to 12-6-1. Waterloo fell to 9-8.
