All-State and highly recruited football player Christian French will announce his college choice Thursday during a 3 p.m. press conference at the Kennedy High School cafeteria, athletics director Aaron Stecker announced Tuesday.
French, who played outside linebacker and wide receiver for Kennedy, said he has narrowed his college choices to Iowa, Notre Dame or Oregon. Among the schools that also recruited him were Iowa State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Missouri, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Louisville and East Carolina. He made official recruiting trips to Iowa, Notre Dame and Oregon.
Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz saw French play in early September and Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly was on hand when French played his last game Nov. 5 in a playoff loss to Bettendorf.
French said Iowa was recruiting him as a wide receiver, Notre Dame as a linebacker and Oregon as a tight end.
French has been selected to play in the Army All-Star Game in early January as one of the top prep players in the nation. He also is playing basketball this winter for the Cougars.
