Hayhurst helps RoughRiders tip Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Jacob Hayhurst scored a power-play goal at the 14:27 mark of the third period Friday night to snap a 3-3 tie and help the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders trim Dubuque, 4-3, in a USHL game before 2,378 fans at the Mystique Ice Center.

Matt Filipe and Luke Morgan collected assists on the game-winning goal.

The RoughRiders trailed 3-1 in the second period before storming back with three straight goals for the victory. Ross Colton pulled Cedar Rapids within 3-2 and Cal Burke tied the game 3-3 at the 13:26 mark of the second stanza.

That set the stage for Hayhurst to snap the tie and give the RoughRiders a clutch victory on the road. Dubuque leads the Eastern Conference with 42 points, but Cedar Rapids (41) and Green Bay (40) are right behind in the tight race.

Colton scored twice for Cedar Rapids, giving him 16 goals this season. Ben Blacker made 34 saves in goal for the RoughRiders.
