RoughRiders trim Muskegon, 3-2

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders withstood two goals in the third period and beat the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 3-2, in a USHL game in front of 2,809 fans Friday at the Ice Arena.

Cedar Rapids scored twice in the first period with goals by Taylor Brierley and Jack Ahcan and assists by Luke Morgan, Jacob Hayhurst, Riese Zmolek and Callahan Burke. Tyler Irvine added a third goal in the second period off an assist by Morgan.

Mitch Eliot and Matej Paulovic scored in the third period for the Lumberjacks, but the RoughRiders held on for the win.

Ben Blacker had 32 saves for Cedar Rapids and Joe Daccord had 20 saves for Muskegon.

The RoughRiders are 23-9-2 for 49 points and lead the Eastern Conference of the USHL. Muskegon is 14-15-2 with 31 points.

Cedar Rapids travels to Chicago for a 7 p.m. face-off Saturday.
