RoughRiders clip Team USA

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders scored two third-period goals to beat Team USA, 4-2, in a USHL match Friday at USA Hockey Arena.

Team USA scored a pair of first-period goals. Justin Cole of Cedar Rapids scored in the first period with assists by Sam Sternschein and David Nemecek, and Ross Colton tied the score with an unassisted goal in the second period.

Jack Ahcan and Cal Burke put the RoughRiders on top with goals in the third period. Cole, Sternschein, Colton and Hugh McGing had assists.

The RoughRiders posted a 43-23 edge in shots and Ben Blacker had 21 saves for Cedar Rapids.

The RoughRiders improved to 32-12-2 for 67 points and lead the Eastern Conference. Team USA fell to 18-19-4 for 41 points and are last in the conference.

The teams meet again at 6 p.m. Saturday at USA Hockey Arena.
