Fairfax, Norway sweep IVL doubleheaders

Fairfax and Norway swept their Iowa Valley League doubleheaders on Sunday, lifting their records to 4-2 after three weeks of the season.

Fairfax swept Williamsburg, 2-1 in eight innings and 5-0. Norway swept Walford, 6-1 and 4-2.

FAIRFAX 2-5, WILLIAMSBURG 1-0

FAIRFAX - Zach Daniels hit a single and scored the winning run on an RBI single by Cody Bell in the bottom of the eighth inning as Fairfax trimmed Williamsburg, 2-1, in the first game of their doubleheader.

Tyler Koningsmark pitched the first five innings for Fairfax, allowing one run on four hits. David Yancey tossed three scoreless innings in relief for the victory.

Fairfax took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opener. Daniels had a base hit, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Jimmy Lizarraga. Williamsburg tied the score, 1-1, in the fifth inning on a single by Garrett Saunders and an RBI double by Nolan Arp.

 

Arp had two hits for Williamsburg in the opener.

Ben Milks pitched five shutout innings in the second game for Fairfax and Bell tossed two shutout innings in relief in the 5-0 triumph.

Fairfax broke the game open with four runs in the sixth inning on four hits and three hit batters. Alex Hayden collected a double in the sixth inning and Lizarraga, Cody Williams and Adam Stolley had base hits. Lizarraga and Williams had two hits for the winners.

Williamsburg fell to 2-4 for the campaign.

NORWAY 6-4, WALFORD 1-2

WALFORD - Brady Corson pitched six strong innings for Norway in the 6-1 victory in the first game against Walford. He struck out six batters and allowed only four hits.

Walford took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Josh Crosby, but Norway exploded for six runs in the sixth inning to take command.

Zach Patterson had two hits and two RBIs for Norway. Brandon Brittain also had two hits.

Brittain collected three more hits and two RBIs for Norway in the 4-2 victory in the nightcap. Tony Solato had two hits for the Bandits.

Norway scored two runs in the third inning and two more runs in the fourth for a 4-0 lead. Walford pulled within 4-2 in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Brennan Hammer, but the rally ended there.

Pedro Garcia pitched five shutout innings for the victory in Game 2.

Walford fell to 2-4 for the season.
