FORT DODGE - The Xavier boys cross country team finished eighth at the Class 3A state meet in Fort Dodge Saturday.

Jonathan Lansing led the Saints by placing 17th in 16 minutes, 44 seconds. John Pape was 24th in 16:55.

Jeremy Fopma of Marion won the 3A race in 16:02.6 and teammate Myles Bach was second in 16:14.5. Mount Vernon/Lisbon won the 3A race and Marion finished sixth.

Ryan Murphy of Linn-Mar finished fourth in the Class 4A race. Prairie placed second, Washington seventh and Linn-Mar eighth. Dowling captured the 4A boys title.

Ella Popenhagen of Kennedy finished sixth in the Class 4A girls race in 18:52.2. Johnston won the title. Linn-Mar was 13th.
