Ira shines for Hawkeye Convenience Stores

Emily Ira enjoyed a big day for Hawkeye Convenience Stores in the Iowa Women's Softball League on Sunday.

Ira, a left-handed pitcher from Western Illinois, pitched a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts as Hawkeye Convenience Stores blanked Emil's Hideaway, 10-0, at Busse Field in Game 1. She also went 3-for-3 as a hitter with two runs scored and an RBI.

Kylee Biedermann of Clarke had two hits for the winners and Erin Drahozal of Upper Iowa collected two RBIs. Payton Bruner of Mount Mercy, Brittni LaFountaine of Illinois State, Emma Hartman of Cornell and Jenna Schwartzhoff of Clarke also had RBIs for Hawkeye Convenience Stores.

Hailey Duwa of Western Illinois hit a double for Emil's Hideaway.


Kelsey Aikey of Western Kentucky pitched five strong innings in relief for Emil's Hideaway in a 4-1 victory over Ironside Apparel in Game 2.

Aikey struck out 10 batters and allowed only one hit. She struck out the side in the third and seventh innings with a sterling performance.

Duwa went 3-for-3 for Emil's Hideaway in the victory, making her 4-for-4 for the afternoon in two games. Taylor Bell of Waldorf had a double and scored twice for the winners. Maddy Ryan of Coe had two RBIs.

Lauren Kuch of Kirkwood drove in a run for Ironside Apparel.


Jenna Schwartzhoff of Clarke and Erin Drahozal of Upper Iowa combined on a two-hit shutout for Hawkeye Convenience Stores in a 1-0 victory over Ironside Apparel in the final game at Mount Mercy.

Schwartzhoff pitched the first five innings and allowed both hits. Drahozal retired six straight batters in the final two innings for a save.

Hawkeye Convenience Stores scored in the top of the fourth inning. Brie Tauber of Clarke had a two-out single and scored on a double by Paige Timmerman of Luther.

Sarah Lehman was the hard-luck loser for Ironside Apparel in the circle. The former Iowa City Regina star pitched all seven innings and allowed one run on five hits. She struck out three batters and walked one.

Abby Downs of UNI had a double for Ironside Apparel.


Bosch Financial got strong pitching from Lizzy Adams and Olivia Goodale and topped Metro Sports Report, 4-2, in the first game of their doubleheader at Simpson College.

Adams, from Coe College, tossed the first three innings and allowed only one hit and one unearned run. Goodale, from Indian Hills, pitched four innings and also surrendered an unearned run.

Ashley Allen of Simpson College went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Bosch Financial. Courtney Johannes of NIACC also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Izzy Collins had two hits.

Lexi Merritt of Grand View had two hits and a double for Metro Sports Report. Merritt and Arianna Kim of Simpson had RBIs. Kim pitched four strong innings in relief, allowing one run on four hits.

Bosch Financial owned a 2-0 lead after three innings of the second game before the contest was postponed by rain. Madi Parrott of Northwestern Oklahoma State was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Bosch Financial in the rain-shortened affair.

Abby Carlin of Western Ilinois pitched three shutout innings for Bosch Financial.
