Jade Rogers needs more surgery

IOWA CITY - Jade Rogers needs more surgery on her wounded left knee and will miss the entire 2011-12 season with the University of Iowa women's basketball team, the school announced Wednesday.

Rogers, a 6-foot forward, originally hurt her knee at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School and had surgery for a torn ACL. She played sparingly for the Hawkeyes last season as a freshman, then had arthroscopic surgery on her knee to remove loose cartilage in May.

She's scheduled for another operation on Thursday. The surgery is intended to realign her left leg to help her knee get stronger, according to the university.

"I'm disappointed to have to miss the upcoming season," Rogers said in a UI press release. "Even though I have to sit out this year, I'm happy to get this injury resolved.

"It will help me come back healthier and stronger next year and will also improve my quality of life down the road."

Iowa Coach Lisa Bluder said the team will miss having Rogers in uniform this season.

"With this surgery, she will have an opportunity to return to competitive basketball," Bluder said in the press release. "Her quality of life after her basketball career will also be much better."

Rogers scored 21 points and collected 22 rebounds in 13 games for Iowa last season.
