Erin Hocker tossed a one-hit shutout Friday as the fifth-ranked Kirkwood Eagles trimmed Ellsworth, 1-0, in the first game of their ICCAC conference doubleheader at Kirkwood.
Bradee Bouman followed Hocker's gem by pitching a two-hit shutout in an 8-0 victory that last only five innings.
Hocker (17-6) struck out 12 batters in the 1-0 victory and did not walk anyone. Taleah Smith drove in Shelby Hulsebus with the only run in the ballgame in the fifth inning. The Eagles had only two hits themselves.
Kirkwood exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap and coasted to the 8-0 victory. Bouman (15-5) struck out two batters and walked one.
Randyn Carter hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Eagles. Hulsebus was 2-for-3, scored twice and had three stolen bases. London Jackson drove in two runs.
The sweep lifted Kirkwood to 34-11 overall and 13-3 in the conference. Ellsworth fell to 13-25 overall and 5-11 in the league.
Kirkwood moved into second place in the ICCAC, two games behind DMACC (15-1).
