WICHITA, Kan. - Payton Bruner belted a pair of home runs Friday to help the Mount Mercy softball team capture two games at the Friends Tournament in Kansas.
Bruner connected for a solo homer in the first game and scored twice as the Mustangs topped Bethel, 12-4, in six innings with a 14-hit attack.
Bruner also socked a home run in the second game and drove in three runs as the Mustangs bopped Tabor, 11-3, with another 14-hit attack.
The sweep lifted Mount Mercy to 7-3 for the campaign.
Hannah Mausser and Jaicee Lyons both went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the 12-4 triumph over Bethel. Jess Heick and Emily Oler had two hits. Oler drove in four runs and Heick had two RBIs. Heick, Mausser and Morgan Braughton scored twice. Madelyn Irwin pitched a complete game for the victory.
Jade Sharp went 3-for-5 and scored twice for the Mustangs in the 11-3 victory over Tabor. Bruner was 2-for-4 and scored two more runs. Oler was 3-for-4. Heick was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Braughton scored two more runs. Jayna Witzany tossed a complete game for the win.
