MOUNT VERNON - Solon had three finishers in the top eight and held off Williamsburg for the championship of the Wamac Conference girls cross country meet Thursday.
Marion finished 10th. The Indians were led by senior Alexis Timp, who finished 27th, and junior Ellen Cannon, who finished 38th.
Solon junior Lauren Benzing was first, running the 4k race in 15 minutes, 17 seconds. Freshman Alex Smith was third in 15:34 and sophomore Tayvia Hansen was eighth in 16:08.
Solon won with 53 points. The Spartans were followed by Williamsburg (63), Mount Vernon-Lisbon (102), Benton (102) and Clear Creek Amana (148). Marion had 254 points.
