Washington (7-3) at No. 2 Linn-Mar (10-0)

Storyline - The right to advance in the Class 4A playoffs goes to the winner, but Washington also will be playing for redemption. The Warriors were blown out, 56-7, by Linn-Mar in a Week 7 game at Kingston Stadium. Lions quarterback Mark Atwater completed only 6 of 9 passes, but three went for touchdowns to Andy Henry. Mitch Wantock also rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Atwater and Henry are healthy, but Wantock is out with a broken ankle. The Lions held the Warriors to 103 total yards. The winner of this game plays the winner of the Iowa City High-Cedar Falls game in the quarterfinals on Friday at a site to be determined.

Washington - Washington is getting healthy at the right time of the year. Will Griffin has run for 450 yards the last three games. He missed the first five games after undergoing preseason ankle surgery. The Warriors have scored 153 points in their last three games, whipping Iowa City West (66-37) and Waterloo West (49-7), and downing Assumption (38-35) in the first round of the playoffs. Flynn Heald has a conference-best 54 receptions, including 21 in a loss to Kennedy on Sept. 9. Senior wideout Ryan Cain, who had missed most of the first four games (collarbone), caught the winning touchdown pass against City High. David Tann is a sure tackler and quick through the line at fullback. Top players: RB Will Griffin, sr. (98-531, 10 TDs rushing); QB Braedon Tovey, sr. Linn-Mar - Senior Brandon Ophoff and sophomore Ross Lembeck filled in for the injured Mitch Wantock at running back against Clinton and combined for 147 rushing yards in a 47-0 win. The Lions ran their record to 27-5 over the past three seasons with their win over Clinton. Linn-Mar set school records with 514 yards rushing and 656 total yards against Wahlert on Sept. 9. The Lions have outscored their foes 404-93 and have outgained foes by more than 200 yards per game (418 to 209). They lead the MVC in total offense, total defense and scoring defense (9.3 points per game). Senior QB Mark Atwater has completed 65.7 percent of his passes, thrown for 24 TDs and run for 10 TDs. His favorite target is senior Andy Henry, who has 18 TD receptions and returned a kickoff and punt for TDs. Top players: QB/LB Mark Atwater, sr.
