Cedar Rapids Kennedy seniors Devon Jacobus and Chico Lizarraga will continue their athletic careers in college.

Jacobus, an all-state third baseman, will play baseball at Grand View University, an NAIA school in Des Moines. Jacobus hit .377 with 10 homers and 37 RBIs last season and helped the Cougars reach the Class 4A state tournament.

Jacobus was a first-team selection on the all-Metro, all-Mississippi Valley Conference and IHSBCA all-state teams.

Lizarraga, an all-Metro and all-conference quarterback, will play football at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. Lizarraga passed for 1,535 yards and nine touchdowns last season and helped Kennedy make the Class 4A playoffs.

Jacobus and Lizarraga will be honored during a reception at the Kennedy cafeteria Wednesday at 2:55 along with Cody Bell (UNI, golf), Alex Hayden (Iowa Central, baseball), Trevor Heitland (Iowa Central, football) and Josh Jahlas (Iowa State, football).
