Timm's 27 put Mustangs in title tilt - Class 2A semis

DES MOINES -- Jake Timm shot Mount Vernon into the Class 2A state basketball championship game Thursday afternoon.

Timm scored 27 points to lead the Mustangs to a 66-49 win over top-seeded MFl MarMac in a Class 2A semifinal game of the boys state basketball tournament Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena.

Mount Vernon (22-4) will play seventh-seeded Fort Dodge St. Edmond (20-6) in Friday's championship game at 8:05 p.m. (KCRG 9.2). St. Edmond advanced by beating Clarinda, 56-44, in overtime in the other semifinal.

Jack Kelleher added 16 points and Micah Russell had 11 for Mount Vernon.

Brandon Hertrampf scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for MFL MarMac (24-2).

Mount Vernon led 15-6 after the first quarter and 34-22 at halftime.

FORT DODGE ST. EDMOND 56, CLARINDA 44 (OT) -- Clarinda scored the first and last points in overtime, but St. Edmond scored 14 in between to advance to the 2A title game against Mount Vernon.

Neil Flattery scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead St. Edmond. Nick Clark added 15 points, with eight coming in overtime.

Tyler Steeve scored 20 points and snagged 12 rebounds for Clarinda (20-5).
