Boyden-Hull claims Class 1A championship

DES MOINES -- Bryce Moss scored six of his 17 points during an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter and Boyden-Hull sprinted past Danville, 63-45, Friday night to claim the Class 1A state tournament title at Wells Fargo Arena.

Boyden-Hull (26-2) claimed its second boys basketball championship and denied Danville (27-1) its second in three years. The top-seeded Bears were beaten in last year's title game by Storm Lake St. Mary's.

Brandt Van Roekel added 15 points and nine rebounds for Boyden-Hull. Nathan Alexander scored 15 points and Taylor Francis had 13. The Comets shot 58.3 percent from the field and also were 18 of 25 from the free throw line.

Steven Soukup led Danville with 15 points. Josh Stevens had 10 points. The Bears shot 40.5 percent, including a 2 of 11 mark from 3-point range.

Danville led 16-10 after one quarter. Boyden-Hull held a 30-27 lead at halftime and led 43-39 after three quarters.

STORM LAKE ST. MARY'S 81, NODAWAY VALLEY 46 -- Kennedy Drey scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead defebding state champion St. Mary's to the consolation title of this year's tournament.

Andy Drey added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Austin Demers had 10 points for St. Mary's (27-1).

The Panthers led 51-20 at halftime. They finished with a 55-30 advantage in rebounding, and Nodaway Valley shot only 28.3 percent.

TJ Bower and Zach Plymesser scored 11 points apiece to lead Nodaway Valley (23-4).
