Jim Womochil's venture into college coaching lasted less than six months.
Instead, he's headed home.
Womochil, the former Jefferson football coach, will be the next football coach at Vinton-Shellsburg the Vinton Today website is reporting. He also has been hired to teach social studies, history and psychology.
Womochil is a 1985 graduate of Vinton High School, where he was an all-conference football player. He played college football at Northern Iowa.
Womochil resigned his coaching job and a leave of absence from his teaching position at Jefferson in January to go to work on Paul Rhoades' football staff at Iowa State. He was hired as a volunteer assistant coach, an unpaid position, and he was assigned to work with the defensive secondary, among other duties.
In 11 years at Jefferson, Womochil was 22-78. He left with the J-Hawks mired in a 22-game losing streak, the longest current losing streak in Class 4A.
