CEDAR FALLS -- The Cedar Rapids Kennedy Cougars got exceptional pitching Friday night and swept a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at Cedar Falls.

Alex Hayden and Zach Johnson combined on a one-hitter with seven strikeouts as the top-ranked Cougars captured the opener, 12-0, in six innings.

Adam Lloyd and Devon Jacobus combined on a three-hitter with seven strikeouts as Kennedy took the nightcap, 10-0, in six innings.

The Cougars raised their records to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the MVC. Cedar Falls fell to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the MVC.

Hayden (3-0) and Lloyd (3-0) pitched five strong innings apiece and got plenty of offensive support. The Cougars collected 13 hits in the opener and tacked on 11 more hits in the nightcap.

Kennedy also excelled on defense, with no errors in either game.

Center fielder Josh Jahlas had a big doubleheader for Kennedy in the leadoff spot in the order. He went 6-for-7 with five runs and two RBIs. Logan Ambrosy, who hits right behind Jahlas, finished 5-for-7 with four RBIs and two runs as the table setters did their job, combining to go 11-for-14 with seven runs and six RBIs.

Devon Jacobus also had a big day for the Cougars. He went 4-for-6 with four RBIs and two runs. Catcher Chico Lizarraga finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs in the twinbill.
