Japan gives Central Iowa a good battle

RUNNELLS - The touring baseball team from Yamanashi, Japan, gave a Central Iowa all-star squad a pair of good battles Saturday.

The first game ended in a 3-3 tie after eight innings due to a time limit at Southeast Polk High School.

Central Iowa won the second game, 6-4.

The team from Japan will appear at Cedar Rapids Kennedy Tuesday night in the Japan-Metro All-Star Classic at 7 p.m.

The visitors from Japan outhit Central Iowa, 10-5, in the opener. Japan took an early 3-0 lead, but Central Iowa rallied to tie it. Zach Little (Southeast Polk) led Central Iowa in the opener with three hits.

Dalton Mason (Southeast Polk) got the victory for Central Iowa in the second game. Austin Pruitt (Southeast Polk) had an RBI triple.

The Central Iowa team was comprised of players from Ankeny, Southeast Polk, Dallas Center-Grimes and Waukee.

The Japanese team is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Urbandale on Sunday and a single game at Principal Park in Des Moines on Monday night.
