Evans, Jenks jump to No. 1 in X-C rankings

Josh Evans and Stephanie Jenks from Linn-Mar High School jumped to the top of the Class 4A cross country rankings Wednesday.

Evans and Jenks climbed to No. 1 after posting impressive victories at the Heartland Classic in Ames last Saturday. Evans, a junior, won his race by nine seconds. Jenks, a freshman, captured her event by 14 seconds.

Evans finished second behind Ben Anderson of West Des Moines Valley at the state meet last year, but now Evans is ranked No. 1 and Anderson is No. 2 in the rankings.

Etienne Nzoyisaba of Cedar Rapids Washington is ranked sixth in Class 4A. Mitch Pritts of Prairie is 11th, Chase Grabau of Linn-Mar is 14th, Isaiah Vlasek of Prairie is 21st and Tanner Rathje of Linn-Mar is ranked 24th.

Maddie Saville of Linn-Mar is ranked eighth among Class 4A girls. Shannon Gorman of Washington is 10th, Alison Culver of Kennedy is 11th, Katie Wampole of Kennedy is 14th, Alyssa Averhoff of Kennedy is 17th, Lauren Meyer of Kennedy is 20th, Rachel Perry of Linn-Mar is 22nd and Amber Decker of Linn-Mar is 23rd.

Xavier freshman Jenny Dickes has climbed to 19th in Class 3A.

Linn-Mar is ranked third in the Class 4A boys team standings. Prairie is 11th and Washington 12th.

Kennedy is ranked third in the Class 4A girls team standings, one spot ahead of Linn-Mar.
