POLK CITY - The Kennedy Cougars grabbed a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Class 4A state golf tournament Friday at the Tournament Club of Iowa in Polk City.
Kennedy finished the first 18 holes with a four-man score of 307 to lead Waukee (308), Johnston (309) and Ottumwa (312) in a tight field.
The Xavier Saints are tied for sixth place in the 12-team tournament with West Des Moines Valley and Pleasant Valley at 317.
The final 18 holes are scheduled to start Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 90 minutes later than planned due to unseasonably cold weather.
Conner Koberg fired a 1-over-par 72 to lead Kennedy on Friday and is tied for third place in the individual standings. Harrison Moore shot a 76 for the Cougars and is tied for ninth.
Jon Ingwersen and Matt Junge both fired 75's for Xavier and are tied for sixth place.
