Marion sweeps Benton in baseball

VAN HORNE - The Marion High School baseball team swept a Wamac Conference doubleheader from Benton Community, 4-3 and 13-1, in Van Horne Wednesday.

The twin-killing lifted the Indians to 10-8 for the season.

Marion rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the opener. David Kuhn and John Carstensen had two hits for the Indians. Brady Donohue got the victory with six strikeouts.

Marion scored 11 runs in the first two innings of the nightcap to take control early. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Gage Kray, Bobby Vanderlind, Mitchell Wiese, Maverick Miller and Baylor Fish had two hits. Weise drove in five runs and Carstensen had three RBIs.

Kuhn got the victory in the nightcap. He scattered four hits and had seven strikeouts.

Marion reaches .500 with easy win

WEST LIBERTY - Tyler Ellertson tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts Tuesday night as the Marion Indians rolled by West Liberty, 12-1, in a prep baseball game in West Liberty.

The victory lifted Marion to the .500 level for the season with an 8-8 record. West Liberty fell to 1-8.

Bobby Vanderlind collected three hits for the Indians. John Carstensen and David Kuhn had three RBIs. Mitchell Wiese and Maverick Miller had two hits.

Marion splits twinbill with DeWitt

DEWITT - The Marion Indians split a Wamac Conference doubleheader with DeWitt Central Wednesday night in DeWitt.

The Indians won the first game, 5-4. Parker Ridge and David Kuhn had two hits and Ridge drove in two runs.

DeWitt Central captured the second game, 8-4. The Sabers scored five runs in the fifth inning to break it open. Gage Kray had three hits for Marion.

The split left Marion with a 7-8 overall record.

Marion baseball splits with Clippers

The Marion High School baseball team split a Wamac Conference twinbill with Clear Creek-Amana Monday night at Marion.

The Clippers took the first game, 5-3, in nine innings. The Indians captured the nightcap, 8-6.

Travis Bowman pitched all nine innings for Clear Creek-Amana in the opener. The Clippers scored twice in the top of the ninth for the victory.

Maverick Miller had a triple and three hits for Marion in the first game. John Carstenson had two hits.

Marion scored seven runs in the first two innings of the nightcap and held on for the victory. Owen Carstenson drove in four runs for the Indians. Bobby Vanderlind had three hits and Miller had two hits.

The split left Marion at 6-7 overall. Clear Creek-Amana is 7-4.

Marion baseball splits with Union

LAPORTE CITY - The Marion High School baseball team split a Wamac Conference doubleheader with Union on Friday in LaPorte City.

Union won a pitchers duel the first game, 1-0, on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Brady Driscol, who was the winning pitcher.

Marion took the nightcap, 12-6.

David Kuhn and Owen Carstensen had two hits for the Indians in the first game. Kuhn, John Carstensen, Bobby Vanderlind and Tyler Ellertson had two hits in the second game. John Carstensen and Mitch Wiese had two RBIs.

Vanderlind was the winning pitcher for Marion.

The split left Marion at 5-6 for the season. Union has a 7-3 record.
