Fish helps Marion hook Independence

INDEPENDENCE – Baylor Fish scored 20 points to lead the Marion boys basketball team to a 50-38 victory over Independence in Wamac Conference action Tuesday at Independence.

Fish popped in four 3-pointers.

The Indians led most of the way, but the Mustangs cut the lead to 32-31 with a minute left in the third quarter. Marion put the game away in the fourth quarter, however.

Marion shot 19-of-21 from the free throw line in the game, including 13-of-14 in the second half.

Chase Zielke and Jacob Manderscheid added nine points for Marion (5-8).

Marion - Boys Basketball

Marion boys fall to Clear Creek Amana

The Marion boys basketball team got off to a good start, but faded down the stretch and lost to Clear Creek Amana 56-47 in a Wamac game Friday at Marion.

The Indians entered the fourth quarter with a 38-36 lead, but the Clippers finished the game with a 20-9 run.

Chase Zielke was the lone Marion player to score in double digits with 12 points. The Indians fell to 4-8.

Cal Miller led Clear Creek-Amana (6-5) with 17 points.

CLEAR CREEK AMANA (56): Thomsen 1 5-8 7, Miller 6 2-3 17, Neubauer 1 7-10 9, Mougin 0 0-0 0, Hallett 2 2-2 6, Akers 4 4-4 12, Downes 2 1-4 5. Totals 16 21-10 56.

Manderscheid sparks Marion by Tama

TAMA – Jacob Manderscheid scored 23 points, shooting 10-of-10 from the free-throw line, to lead the Marion boys basketball team in a 54-41 Wamac win over South Tama on Tuesday.

The Indians trailed 25-23 midway through the third quarter, but they pulled away in the fourth quarter and improved to 4-7.

Baylor Fish added 10 points for Marion.

Clayton Rosenberger scored 18 points for South Tama (2-10) and Triston Lasley added 14 points.

Marion boys trimmed by Vinton

VINTON - Vinton-Shellsburg scored the last three points of the game Friday night to snap a 43-43 tie and trim Marion, 46-43, in a Wamac Conference boys basketball game in Vinton.

Tyler Stueck led Vinton-Shellsburg (8-3) with 14 points. Austin Bohnsack had 12 points for the winners.

Noah Walter scored 10 points for Marion (3-7). Baylor Fish and Jacob Manderscheid had nine points apiece.

Jacob Manderscheid scored 18 points and Baylor Fish added 12 as the Marion boys basketball team fell to Western Dubuque, 55-44, Tuesday in a Wamac Conference game at Marion.

Jordan Lake had 18 points to lead Western Dubuque (6-2).

Marion fell to 3-6.
